about

Steinmetz and Warjri met on the music faculty of the Kodaikanal International School in Tamil Nadu/Southindia in 1999. Togteher they prepared concerts performed in schools, clubs churches and private homes in Tamil Nadu and Meghalaya. As they explored the roots of their individual musical backgrounds, together they improvised on well known songs, folk music, hymns and original compositions. From this joint exploration they offer a new soundscape between folk and jazz, the past and the present. This music was recorded live in Berlin during their first German concert tour in the summer of 2001.

The two additional songs were recorded live during a concert in Shillong in 2010 with Steinmetz´s German Jazz Quartet and Warjri´s local Aroha choir. The cover photo "View from the Kodai-Hills" was made by the violinist and photographer David George from Bangalore.
